The Best Project in the Moscow Region competition, initiated by the Committee for Architecture and Urban Planning of the Moscow Region, has for the third consecutive year served as a key platform for recognising outstanding achievements in architecture and urban planning. In 2025, the competition programme introduced the Completed Buildings category for the first time, dedicated to finished and already functioning projects that have made a significant contribution to the development of the region.

The winner in the non-residential category was the Mayak Adaptation Centre for Deafblind Children in Sergiev Posad — a distinctive example of inclusive architecture designed around the complex needs of children with visual and hearing impairments. Notably, the same project had previously received the competition’s main award in the Projects category.

Mayak is conceived as an urban simulator, where every spatial detail supports social adaptation and the development of independence among the centre’s students. The architectural solution includes a variety of movement routes, multisensory navigation — visual, tactile and acoustic — as well as zones adapted to different types of impairment, including hearing, vision and mobility limitations. Tactile surfaces, clear colour coding and carefully considered ergonomics make the centre safe, legible and accessible for all users.
