ATRIUM Vocabulary of Architecture explores the key concepts and ideas shaping today’s architectural discourse, creating a framework of meanings that define our collective understanding of contemporary architecture. Each term is accompanied by a short essay and illustrated with projects from ATRIUM studio, developed over three decades of practice. These range from private residences and apartments to public buildings, urban planning projects, skyscrapers, design and art objects, and even ventures into the metaverse.
The book is structured into five sections, each named after a Latin letter — T, R, I, U, and M. Within each section, five architectural terms are explored in Russian, including Team, Research, Identity, User Experience, Morphology, and others. The letter "A" on the cover sets the overarching theme: Architecture as Art. Each section features a unique layout, emphasizing different facets of the architectural profession—collaborative work, research, conceptual development, user experience, and formal exploration.
“This book is both a study rooted in self-reflection and an expression of our personal perspective on the profession, while also formulating universal principles and ideas that underpin contemporary architecture,” says Anton Nadtochy, co-founder and chief architect of ATRIUM studio.
