Creating an architectural interior within a small area is far from simple. In order to transform several rooms into an architectural object, it was first necessary to reveal the large-scale form of the building’s external volume as fully as possible by introducing a double-height glazed wall. Several forms are inserted into the second-floor space: a timber plane and a metal shelving volume, which divide the floor into functional zones — an office, a meeting room and a waiting area. Each form is articulated through its own material.
Brick, timber, glass, specially treated rusted metal and the existing concrete slabs create an interplay that allows traditional spaces to be reinterpreted. Interior materials and elements such as preserved natural lawn, antique furniture and switchable glass between the office and the meeting room add further variety of textures and sensations. The folded concrete stair is also expressed as an independent element: it does not rest on the floor slabs and appears almost detached from the walls.
