On the picturesque bank of the Volga, in the northern part of Samara, rising above a natural cliff, the concept for a new park hotel emerged. The studio conceived it as a contemporary multifunctional pedestrian and recreational area for leisure, relaxation and cultural activities for residents and visitors of the city.
The architectural ensemble consists of three functional groups, organically integrated into the site’s complex terrain, which seems to grow from the depth of the land and descend towards the riverbank. A snow-white hotel and entertainment complex with 137 rooms crowns the top of the slope. Its expressive three-rayed composition gives most rooms views towards the Volga and the opposite bank. Each ray is an autonomous three-storey volume with its own circulation core and a light-filled atrium, forming a welcoming public space.
On the eastern side of the complex, on both sides of the central hall that brings together all the functional blocks, there are a health and sports centre, restaurants, a spa and a leisure centre with bowling and a children’s play area. The western part descends in a gentle cascade into a green walking zone, beginning from the existing woodland and leading to a playground, which becomes an ice rink in winter. Due to the terrain, some spaces are located on underground levels. These include the spa, with access to an outdoor pool and beach area, and a two-level underground car park with access from the main entrance.
Below the hotel complex is a group of 42 terraced villas, following the curves of the terrain and providing maximum views towards the river. Each villa is a private space with its own terrace, two separate entrances and a green boundary that separates it from its neighbours through tall planters and dense landscaping. In the lowest part of the site, there are 18 detached one- and two-storey villas with panoramic glazing facing the water.
The park hotel on the Volga was designed to become a new flagship for regional tourism, combining an advanced approach to functional zoning, a careful attitude to the existing ecosystem and high standards of comfort for all categories of guests.
