For a long time, the river shaped the economic and spatial life of the city. The architecture of the bridge therefore needed its own identity, connected specifically with the Tura and the river history of Tyumen.

At the concept stage, we developed three options for the design and structural solution: Cedar Bridge, Sea Knot and Doshchanik. Each explored the themes of Siberia, river navigation and the urban landmark in a different way. As a result of the analysis, the image of the doshchanik, a traditional river vessel characteristic of Siberian rivers, proved to be the most precise for this place.

Its elongated proportions are reinterpreted in the smooth line of the span, the large arch and the system of slender ties. The silhouette recalls the body and structure of a vessel, while retaining the clarity of a contemporary engineering form.

The bridge is designed for different speeds of movement and different scenarios of use. The cycling route is separated from the wide pedestrian zone. Widened sections of the deck create places for stopping, meeting and looking out over the city panoramas.

The bridge is integrated into the landscape design of both banks. Its approaches continue the existing routes and connect the crossing with walking paths, planted areas and places for rest. A public centre is planned at one of the entrances, gathering the main flows and forming an additional point of urban activity.

The connection with the history of the place and the expressive silhouette give the bridge the potential to become one of Tyumen’s recognisable landmarks.
