The comprehensive regeneration of the river port and urban embankment in the central part of Cheboksary is a large-scale project aimed at creating a comfortable and accessible environment that harmoniously combines commercial, public and recreational functions in order to enhance the appeal of the place.

The project consists of several stages of improvement to the 1,400-metre-long river boulevard. It includes the creation of wide pedestrian zones with planting, areas for recreation and active leisure, multi-level spaces with viewpoints towards the Volga and the historic part of the city, as well as new pedestrian routes from Red Square to Victory Park via a pedestrian tunnel and a continuous embankment. Particular attention is given to the carefully considered zoning of the territory, including the creation of a new pier square with an exhibition pavilion and a restaurant courtyard. Since the passenger pier of the river port is not currently used as a promenade, the project’s objective is to transform this territory into a lively public space with cafés, restaurants, retail pavilions and venues for cultural events, making the embankment a year-round centre of urban life.

Another important task of the project is to create an expressive architectural landmark capable of radically changing the perception of the city’s riverfront and transforming it into a dynamic and attractive public space. A mixed-use complex with a unified stylobate will appear near the port, comprising three residential buildings of varying height — 22, 26 and 28 storeys — as well as a hotel, retail areas and an office centre. The recognisable, emphatically contemporary architecture of the complex is interwoven with local cultural traditions and actively draws on their visual language. The facade pattern is decorated with red-and-white diamond-shaped motifs characteristic of Chuvash national ornament, while the dynamic image of the towers is inspired by the khushpu, a traditional festive headdress with a pyramidal form. Thanks to the volumetric and spatial composition, each floor has a unique layout and a distinct function. The ground floor is allocated to retail, restaurants, children’s and sports centres, while the third floors accommodate public areas with lounges, swimming pools, co-working spaces and private courtyards for residents. The facade solutions of the complex use contemporary materials and technologies that ensure energy efficiency, durability and maximised views.
The large-scale regeneration of the embankment embodies Cheboksary’s orientation towards the future and its ambition to respond to the spirit of the time while preserving its cultural identity. The project reinterprets local traditions and develops them through architecture, shaping a new urban identity and creating a contemporary public space that will become a point of attraction for residents and visitors to the city.
